The fan on the power supply stopped spinning, which lead to overheating and an unstable system, with frequent locking-up etc. So I bought a new power supply and had <sarcasm>great fun</sarcasm> disconnecting the cables from the old one, and then attempting to connect the new supply up.
Upon booting the system up, my monitor started displaying random colours in various places, and turning itself off. So I borrowed a monitor, and this had the same symptoms. It turned out that the faulty PSU did something to my graphics card. So I’ve now got a new Nvidia 6800 to replace my 4400.
At least my system is quiet now (I’ve got a fanless graphics card and a near-silent power supply (larger fan, so it can spin slower).
Oh yeah – because my lecturers post their slides online, I haven’t taken that many notes in class. And this was exam week…
