DVDFolks download milestone

There are now over 500 users of DVDFolks. Judging by threads in the IVS forums, I hadn’t realised there were that many people who took the time to enter data!

It’s also only now that I realise just what I took on when I put together version 0.1.

Anyway, I’m looking foward to the next 500 users!

I’m on slashdot!

here

It’s only in a comment, and only because someone can’t RTFA properly and mistook me for ‘Wally’, but hey. Be interesting to see what that does to my site traffic….

My PC broke :-(

The fan on the power supply stopped spinning, which lead to overheating and an unstable system, with frequent locking-up etc. So I bought a new power supply and had <sarcasm>great fun</sarcasm> disconnecting the cables from the old one, and then attempting to connect the new supply up.

Upon booting the system up, my monitor started displaying random colours in various places, and turning itself off. So I borrowed a monitor, and this had the same symptoms. It turned out that the faulty PSU did something to my graphics card. So I’ve now got a new Nvidia 6800 to replace my 4400.

At least my system is quiet now (I’ve got a fanless graphics card and a near-silent power supply (larger fan, so it can spin slower).

Oh yeah – because my lecturers post their slides online, I haven’t taken that many notes in class. And this was exam week…

Use this power wisely…

I now have canconfim and editbugs privileges on Mozilla’s bugzilla. This means that I’m trusted enough to modify/edit any part of any bug in the database. Any bugs I file also get a slight head-start, since they are filed as new instead of unconfirmed. Users without these permissions can only modify bugs they’ve filed themselves, and add comments to other bugs.

[the title of the post comes from a remark in the 'you've got enhanced permissions' email I received]
